Welcome to East Van Music Lab!
Whether you're just beginning or ready to record your hit song, our programs are built around creativity, connection, and real-world music making. We offer private lessons, artist mentorship,
band experiences, and studio recording - all in a supportive, high-energy environment.
Most group programs are currently open only to enrolled EVML students and their invited friends.
If you're new to the Lab and interested in joining a program, we welcome you to join our waitlist -
we’ll reach out if a spot opens up or when new sessions launch.

FROM LAB TO STUDIO:
Many students begin with LESSON LAB_PRIVATE + MENTORSHIP to build confidence,
then move into BAND LAB_FOUNDATIONS for group experience.
Once they’re ready, they step into full recording projects like
RECORDING LAB_SUMMER SESSIONS or BAND LAB_JAM + RECORD.

RECORDING LAB_SUMMER SESSIONS
RECORDING LAB_SUMMER SESSIONS
Ages 8+ | 3-Day & 5-Day Music Studio Experiences
A boutique summer program where young musicians collaborate, rehearse,
then professionally record original music as a band.
Each session wraps with a professional mix, a band photo shoot,
and a private webpage to showcase your music top family and friends.
These sessions are designed for students who are excited to participate creatively,
work as a team, and stay engaged in a focused studio environment.
This is a hands-on experience where students walk away with something they can be proud of.
Program Options:
FULL SESSION (5 Days – $490)
An immersive studio experience.

Monday to Friday, 10 AM – 2 PM

2 original songs recorded and mixed

Pro band photo shoot

Private webpage with final tracks + photos
MINI SESSION (3 Days – $350)
A compact version for students short on time but ready to create.

Monday to Wednesday or Thursday to Saturday, 10 AM – 2 PM

1–2 songs recorded and mixed (based on group level)

What to Bring:

Your instrument (guitar, bass, etc.)

Water bottle (no open drinks in the studio)

Let us know your preferred days – we’ll do our best to match you with a group based on age, level, and availability.
We’re currently forming small groups made up of current EVML students, their friends, and a limited number of new participants who are passionate about music and ready to dive in.

BAND LAB_JAM + RECORD
Teens & Adults | Seasonal Program
Play in a band. Rehearse weekly. Record in a professional studio.
This artist development program helps musicians sharpen their skills, collaborate, and walk away with polished tracks and pro band photos.
Each session ends with a professional recording experience and a custom band web page.

Ages 8 and up | In-Studio or Online
Work one-on-one with award-winning educator Michael Simpsonelli to grow your skills, creativity, and confidence in a personalized setting.
Perfect for students working on technique, songwriting, recording, or artist development.

BAND LAB_FOUNDATIONS
Ages 8+ | Weekly Band Rehearsals
Get ready for the studio with a solid groove, creative confidence, and collaborative flow.
This weekly group program is designed for young musicians who are building the skills, confidence, and experience needed to join our full RECORDING LAB_SUMMER SESSIONS or ONE-DAY INTENSIVES.

Through guided rehearsals, students learn how to:

Understand group dynamics and listening

Build original arrangements

Learn popular songs

Develop rhythm, groove, and musical intuition
Whether your child is brand new to group playing or just needs a tune-up before their next big session, BAND LAB_FOUNDATIONS is the perfect place to build confidence
and musical chemistry in a fun, low-pressure setting.

Program Fee:

$35 per student for standard groups (4–6 students)

$42 per student for small groups (3 students)

$60 per student for semi-private duos (2 students)
Final group format and rate will be confirmed based on enrollment. We’ll always check in before proceeding with a small group version.

NEW! DRUM LAB_HAND PERCUSSION
Separate Classes for Kids & Adults | Group + Private Options

Explore rhythm and percussion in a relaxed, engaging format with EVML percussion instructor Sacha Levin.
These classes focus on groove, creativity, coordination, and joy through hand drumming and small percussion. Musical limericks and games are part of the fun.
Perfect for beginners or experienced players looking for community and inspiration.

MONTHLY WORKSHOPS
Looking for more ways to play, create, and explore?
Each month, we offer special one-day workshops on a rotating set of topics - from songwriting and recording to genre deep-dives, ensemble playing, arranging, and more.
​
Workshops typically run from 10 AM to 2 PM on Pro D Days and select weekends, and are open to students ages 8+ who are excited to collaborate and try something new.
